My brief was to design and deliver a spectacular garden space.
This North Somerset garden (Bristol) was an unusually shaped garden. I had a specific brief to incorporate a hot tub, outdoor kitchen area and summerhouse. The garden needed to be low maintenance, dog friendly, modern / contemporary and designed around two established trees (both with TPOs) which dominated the space. The existing space was dark, uninviting with a few overgrown shrubs around the perimeter.
After a few days on the drawing board (and PC) I cracked it. Most importantly my client was keen on the design and my solution for the space.
I had allocated the space at the side of the property as the living area. This area was the sunniest. The proposed space included the hot tub, sauna (cedar clad), outdoor kitchen, contemporary outdoor fire, outdoor dining area all encased with a sleek pergola and raised planting beds. A sandstone path then lead to a more informal area consisting of a circular lawn edged with sandstone setts, sphere summerhouse with a path leading to the existing mature Sycamore (TPO) with a tree seat at its base. A meandering cobble path then lead on to a wild flower area where bees could feed from plant nectar and their honey could be harvested in a new beehive.
The scheme was to be transformed at night, with a carefully designed iphone operated lighting scheme.
After all this careful planning, all the specifications were agreed; drafted, illustrated and bound. The next phase was to build! As the project manager on this scheme my part in this exciting space was still only just beginning. Don’t worry I will get to the plants in spring 2013.
